Oracle Arizona Real Estate
Like many communities in Southern Arizona, Oracle was founded as a mining town, and it was once the site of a mine owned by Buffalo Bill Cody. Since its early days, the town has transformed into a bustling community with a diverse economic base, and a popular home for those working in nearby Tucson who prefer things a little more laid back when they come home.
With one of the most affordable housing markets around, Oracle, Arizona real estate is the perfect spot for first-time buyers and investors alike, with a great selection of homes starting under $200,000.
Highly specialized scientific activity in Oracle over the past couple of decades has also helped put the town on the map. In 1987, Oracle became the site of Biosphere 2, a manmade closed ecological system used to test how people would be able to work in a closed biosphere. The white, honeycomb-shaped buildings comprising Biosphere 2 look like something out of a science fiction movie, but they are in fact quite practical, and have helped scientists determine the possibilities for moon settlements and isolated vegetation growth. Before the project’s announced sale in 2005, thousands of university students spent semesters there. Biosphere 2 is now a popular site open to tourists.
